Lesson 1Three things worth checking every time
Once AI produces something, the habit that separates careful professionals from careless ones is checking it before using it — every time, not just when something feels obviously wrong.
- Facts and figures — names, dates, numbers, prices, addresses, legal or medical claims. Verify anything specific and local against a real source.
- Tone and fit — does this actually sound like you or your business? AI defaults can feel generic or subtly off for your audience.
- Completeness — did it answer everything you asked, or quietly skip part of a multi-part request?
Real-life example: Efua asked an AI tool to draft a customer email listing her shop's delivery fees for five areas in Accra. The draft looked polished — but one of the five fees was wrong, because she'd only clearly mentioned four earlier in the conversation and the AI filled in the fifth with a guess. Catching it saved an awkward, costly correction with a customer.
A simple habit
Read anything meant for a customer, official document or public post fully out loud once before sending. It catches a surprising number of tone and completeness issues.
