Lesson 1From brand kit to identity system
The Beginner Capstone (Module 7) produced a Mini Brand Identity Kit — logo, palette, typography, a one-page guide. That's a genuine, usable foundation, but it's scoped for a small business's immediate needs. A full identity system goes further: it anticipates the wide range of real-world contexts a brand will eventually need to appear in, many of which the original designer will never personally design.
The key shift
The Module 7 kit answers “how does this logo and colour palette look on the things I've designed.” A full identity system answers “how would anyone, in any future context I haven't imagined yet — a sign painter, a print shop, an employee making a slide deck — correctly and consistently apply this brand without me being in the room.” That shift, from covering known applications to anticipating unknown ones, is what separates this module from Module 7.
