Lesson 1Responsibility, documentation and real skill
- You are responsible for what your code does, in production, to real people. “The AI generated it” is not a defence — you reviewed it and shipped it under your name.
- Document your reasoning, not just your code. A short note on why a piece of AI-assisted code works the way it does helps you maintain it later.
- Keep building your own understanding deliberately. The strongest builders use AI to move faster on things they already understand, while still practising the fundamentals.
Real-life example: Nana is finishing her Python capstone, a small budgeting app. She used AI heavily to speed up boilerplate and debugging, but wrote her own comments explaining the budgeting logic in her own words, tested every function with edge cases herself, and could walk through the whole project in her final presentation without hesitation — because she treated AI as a tool that helped her build faster, not a replacement for learning to build.
The through-line
AI is a powerful accelerant for a real skill, not a replacement for having one.
